Around 1678 a hybrid between Criollo and Forastero trees originated in Trinidad known for its floral and fruity characteristics. Trinitario cocoa was born in the 19th century. The Trinitario trees spread across the globe and can be found in Venezuela, Ecuador, Cameroon, Sri Lanka, Java and Papua New Guinea. Trinitario is the predominant fine flavour chocolate today. Trinidad and Tobago cocoa producers won numerous achievements globally securing the countries Trinitario cocoa as one of the world’s finest.
